This lecture is the first of two on Interdisciplinary treatment. It elaborates on the advantages and importance of close collaboration between practitioners in interdisciplinary treatment and outlines a framework for such treatment. There is discussion on the analysis of the aesthetics and the importance of an in depth analysis. Smile arc protection is discussed. There is an outline for the need for inclusion of orthodontics in more subtle cases. An in depth analysis of diagnosis of the "gummy smile" is discussed.
