Surgical removal of third molars is associated with postoperative pain, swelling, and trismus. Parameters associated with complications are age, gender, significant medical history, oral contraceptives, pericoronitis, poor oral hygiene, smoking, position of impaction, relationship of third molar apex to the mandibular canal, increased surgical time, surgical technique used, surgeon’s experience, perioperative antibiotics, topical antiseptics, intra-socket medications, and anesthetic technique, a localized alveolar osteitis, postoperative infection, hemorrhage, oro-antral communication, damage to the adjacent teeth, displaced teeth, and bone fracture.
