Los dientes se ubican en su posición por la función que ejecuta la lengua, labios y carrillos. Más del 75% de los niños tienen una maloclusión en desarrollo evidente desde los 5 años de edad. La intervención temprana en los malos hábitos miofuncionales es la clave de todo tratamiento de ortodoncia. El objetivo es corregir los hábitos miofuncionales apenas estos se hagan evidentes.

Si no se corrige la verdadera causa de la maloclusión, la recidiva será inminente. Debemos ir más allá y hacer interconsultas con diferentes especialistas; por ejemplo los psicólogos, ya que algunos hábitos se asocian con problemas de una raíz psicológica.
